The Girl Who Played With Fire question?
I just finished The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson (2nd book in the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series) and am about 120 pages into the third book. I have been curious about a follow-up to the hurricane/ 16 year old boy/ man who tried to murder his wife storyline in the beginning of 'Fire'. It was not mentioned once again in the second book, nor in the third so far, and am wondering if this will be brought up later, and if not, then why the author put it in. Please do not tell me any spoilers, am just curious! :-) thank you|||I just recently finished the girl who kicked the hornets nest. And the answer is no, sorry. I think Steig larsson but it the book for a specific reason. The first book rembear was orginally called Men who hate women. We saw that throughtout the book when men in general treated Lisbeth cruelly and unjuistifable. Throught girl who played with fire we see women treated badly but can't do anything about it. Steig showed how the Mr. Forbes could get away with it. Why repeat? We got it.
Also to add more about the boy. He was actually seventeen years old. No more mention of him because rembear Lisbeth has a problem with saying goodbye. And she couldn't get back because people were looking for her. The boy played no rule other than her occasional lover. I think if Stieg were still alive he could bring you this answers and but his insight or add a little more two the other novels. The girl with the dragon tattoo?
I started to read the girl with the dragon tattoo by stieg larsson because everyone is talking about how good it is. I am wondering when it will get interesting. All that is happening right now is all this political and trial boring stuff that I don't understand at all. Is the whole book like this or just the first few chapters. If it does get past all that where does the good parts start and could you just tell me a summery or something about what's happening at the beginning. PREFERABLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE READ THE BOOK PLEASE. Thanks.|||i didnt understand it at first either (im 15) but it doesnt get to the rising action until the end. However, i do recommend that you do not skip over anything, thats lazy and believe me, the back is waaaaay to good not to read and everything somehow fits into the ending so if you skim, youll be lost.

So I've got it down to three books:
4th of July by James Patterson. It's the fourth book in a series called "The Women's Murder Club." Really love the series, just finished the third and it left with a cliff-hanger so I really want to get to that one.
Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris. Second book in the True Blood series. Finished the first one, I liked it but didn't love it. I only want to get to through that series to get to the fourth book since I'm ADDICTED to the show. I've heard the new series is going to be based off the fourth book.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. Started reading it two weeks, got about 200 pages through. Started to really enjoy the plot line, I saw how interesting it gets once you get pass the boring intros. I'm also waiting to see the movie until I finish reading the book, which I've been DYING to see.

Any recommendations for GOOD mystery/crime fiction (no Evanovich-type stuff)?
I'm looking for some recommendations for good, quality mystery/crime/suspense fiction (series or single books). I love the old stuff like Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle but have read most of their stuff. I'm a lot more picky when it comes to contemporary mystery/crime writers - I really enjoyed Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series and Shades of Grey, and I've just finished Alan Bradley's Flavia de Luce books.
I definitely do NOT want something in the vein of Evanovich/Mary Higgins Clark/Patterson/Kellerman, and I absolutely hate anything I've read by Dan Brown.
I'm open to newer stuff or if there are older books in the vein of Christie/Doyle that I haven't checked out yet. No Stieg Larsson - I'm contemplating reading those but not right now.

HI!!! I read the millenium series and watched the movies and I'm completely FOND of it, I love it so much. All of my friends are into vampires and twilight stuff which I hate, like totally.

I hide who I am, don't know what to do?
Everyone I know thinks I'm a girly, self involved, boy crazed, dumb, 'pretty' girl. It bugs me, but it's sorta my fault. I get honors at school, everyone thinks I'm failing, I love reading comic books and actual books of course I love Stephen King, Stieg Larsson, Jane Austen, and gaming out, drawing watching Star Trek, Dr.Who, Battlestar Galactica, I watch Firefly even though it didn't make it very far :p, When I'm out of highschool [I'm in grade 9] I want to be an engineer for a university.
I have nothing in common with any of my 'friends', I think I'm going to start a fresh slate as me in a new school next semester, I don't know if it's a good idea, but I think I need to show who I am. I am lonesome of plenty
Small limbs of a broken tree
Always looking to the ones above
For conduction,strength and safety.
One little limb trying
To keep the others from breaking away
Who will fall?
And who will stay?
Now I stand by myself
Looking at the earth through the rain
And I see the broken branches I knew
stray about me in pain.
We always found the way to hide the hurtful mistakes with some super sticker.
And some how ultimately the glue could hold no more.
There are these who have taken an axe
To the root of our very basis
And who have passed this demolition
Down to each recent generation.
If I could pick this axe
I would throw it deep into the lake
Never to come back again
To injure the generations that follow me.
How am I going to care for myself?
I can't even say, 'I've still got my healthiness!'
For too many years, I would sit lonely and weep.
Please Lord I need to know just, how am I?
I am one of many
But I know my life is different

Is the new Millennium movie too disturbing for a 14 year old?
I've read the Millennium trilogy (Stieg Larsson) and I thoroughly enjoyed them, so I'm considering watching the film adaption of it, but is it too disturbing for a 14 year old?
The books (Dragon Tattoo) made me feel a bit queasy at certain scenes, but they didn't bother me too much.
Last time I watched 'The Lovely Bones' I couldn't go to sleep for 4 weeks so...if the violence in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie goes beyond
it, I'll pass.|||If the new David Fincher adaptation is as graphic as the one that was done in Swedish by Niels Arden Oplev I would think that it would be too disturbing for a 14 year old. The Swedish one had a couple of graphic rape scenes, a not so graphic sexual assault scene and a sex scene and a lot of nudity and language. I am used to seeing a lot of disturbing material, but that one was one of the most disturbing things I had ever seen in a movie. I do not know if the American version by Fincher will be as blatant with the rape scenes since I haven't seen it but you might not want to watch it since I think it will definately be more graphic than The Lovely Bones.

Millenium Series... Not printed properly ?

I've been reading the millenium series by Stieg Larsson ( the girl who played with fire to be exact) and just bought this book from Chapters Indigo in Canada and threw the bill in the trash, never thinking I'd get this problem...

I don't have the bill and the book is now obviously worn ( paperback)... Do you think the bookstore will exchange it anyway??|||The issue isn't going to be that the book is worn - it is clearly not fit for the purpose for which it was sold and never was.
The problem is going to be whether you can convince the book store you bought it from them, and without the receipt that is going to be very difficult. I don't suppose you paid for the book with anything that is traceable, ie credit or debit card? If you did, then the fact that a transaction took place can be traced, (even if it cannot be tied to this particular book) which may make them more sympathetic.
My feeling is that you might have to chalk this one up to experience. Next time keep the bill (I use it as a bookmark) until you have read the book.

How to play subtitles on xbox while watching movies from USB.?
have the Stieg Larsson's Dragon Tattoo Trilogy and I have put it on my USB. Its simpler to watch this way, no having to swap dvds, take out games, or need to take care of the DVD.
The DVD and my file on the USB include, Swedish audio track, English audio track and English subtitles.
I can get it to play on the xbox however, it automatically chooses the English dubs and won't let me switch.
VLC: I can choose any format I want. Only in Swedish, Swedish with English subs, English, and English with subtitles.
Windows media player / center: Only plays English dubbed.

Other books with characters who hack, but aren't really about hacking?
I'm thinking of books like Little Brother, by Cory Doctorow, or Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson, or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson. They have characters who do some hacking, and hacking/tech might be a theme in the book, but the stories aren't really about hacking.
Not cyberpunk, etc.

Age Group for Books.?
What age group would you put Stieg Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" in? Is it a high school or college level book?|||They have explicit language, perverse violence, and both normal and violent sexual content, as well as themes meant for adults. I wouldn't really put an age group, since I believe there are high schoolers who could handle that, but it is definitely not for children or for anyone sensitive to those themes.|||From what Rebecca says is in the book, it sounds Adult to me (Mystery). Young Adult can only go so far when it comes to sexual situations, so it depends on how explicit the sexual references are; if it's anything like adult romance then it's definitely an adult book.Young Adult can include sexual situations and cursing, but publishers usually do not allow it to be very explicit.

I'm not sure what genre it is, and to be honest, there's no real plot; it's just about how a Palestinian teenager and his family cope with the continuous conflict between their country and Israel, but it's not like.. old. It's a modern day book. It involves romance, crime and punishment, and war, I guess.
It's got to be the best book I've ever read, why? It's just so.. different, you know? It's like seeing the world from just one person's perspective. Although the storyline / characters aren't real, the situation is. There's so much you don't hear about on the news in developed countries like the UK, about situations in less developed countries, it's so hard to explain. It's just a really moving book, and there's so many moments where it's hard not to want to cry :| just thinking about some of the things that go on in other countries, which we don't even know about, is horrible.
A Little Piece of Ground really inspired me, after reading it, I'd like to travel to Palestine when I'm a little older, just to see what it's really like.
I enjoy books which are partly based on real life things, because for me, it's the easiest way to learn about the world :)

GONE TOMORROW by Lee Child is something I would recommend over the Larsson. It's a fantastic thriller and part of a series, so if you like it he's got 10 more already in print.|||"Blood Meridian" and "Gravity's Rainbow" are two of my favorite books. You're my new favorite person on here. Of the rest, I'd say "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". I don't like Stephen King or Terry Pratchett.
I'd recommend something like "Ragtime" by E.L. Doctorow. Right now I'm reading "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. GONE TOMORROW by Lee Child is something I would recommend over the Larsson. It's a fantastic thriller and part of a series, so if you like it he's got 10 more already in print.|||"Blood Meridian" and "Gravity's Rainbow" are two of my favorite books. You're my new favorite person on here. Of the rest, I'd say "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". I don't like Stephen King or Terry Pratchett.
I'd recommend something like "Ragtime" by E.L. Doctorow. Right now I'm reading "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. Is it haram to watch T.V or play video games during Ramadan?
I pray five times, read Quran, and read about Islam, but it still doesnt kill time! I wanted to know if I could watch stuff like Spongebob or iCarly. Not stuff with blood or cursing. Also, my brother is a huge video game fan and I'm trying to slow down his video game addiction. He likes play Call of Duty and I know by heart it has blood and killing Muslims so thats haram. Can he play stuff like mario? So can I watch T.V and play video games during Ramadan?|||If it is not haram outside of Ramadan then its not Haram during Ramadan. If it is haram outside of Ramadan then it is haram during Ramadan.

Also, if any character says a word of short phrase a lot, like a catchphrase, you could use that.|||Choose 25 words from the book - and don't forget you can use common words, the little connector words, and other simple words.
Crosswords are actually quite fun to do. Pick one word that will be the theme for your puzzle, put it in the middle of the puzzle, and then work out from there.

Have you read the book The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson? and if so, how did you like it? would you recommend it?|||I downloaded it as an audio book from Audible.com and listened to it on my iPod. It was well-written. The lead female character is very strong and the plot moves at a good pace. It won't be the best book you've ever read, but it is solidly entertaining.

Don't know why, but I have gotten into subtitled detective dramas of late: Wallander, The Killing, Spiral, and the three Stieg Larsson films. Nothing seems to be good on the telly, so I am considering getting a DVD or something. Any ideas? I also like Dexter, CSI, and all ITV's Poirot adaptations. by Swedish author Stieg Larsson and did you like the main characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist? Do you think they were believable and sympathetic? I thoroughly enjoyed it and have bought the 2nd in the trilogy Girl who played with Fire, to start [and probably finish] this weekend. I've read many varying reviews from aweful to wonderful, wondered what you all thought of it?|||Well, I like Swedish crime novels. They are refreshingly different from the British and American ones.

The third book does not have this problem and it gives you a great resolutions to all the various story-lines.

I just got done reading the Stieg Larsson series (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire) and the Tana French books (The Likeness and In the Woods). I am 16 and have read a lot, so far i'm liking authors similar to Lauren Barnholdt, Jenny Han, SIMONE ELKELES. How do you delete samples from Nook e-reader?
My Barnes %26amp; Noble Nook e-reader came with two samples: "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" by Stieg Larsson and "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan.
I don't ever plan to read those two books and I want to remove them, but there is no Delete option. The instructions that came with the Barnes %26amp; Noble Nook says to Archive books rather than Delete them, but I don't see any Archive option either for the samples either.
How can I get rid of them?|||Their is no delete option unless you connect to the computer. I'm not sure if you are able to archive the built in work(s). Go to your Library, from what I read, hover over the book in the library, (on the scroll screen), and click "View Item Details %26amp; Options." At the bottom of that screen should be the Archive option. Hit that and when it goes back to the first screen hit "Hide Archived Items".
I'm not sure if the samples can be deleted though, if not then the only other way would be connecting it up to your computer, then deleting. What is the best version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo films?
I want to watch Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy but I'm not sure whether I should get the regular films or the extended TV mini series version, anyone know which is better?|||I really enjoyed the Swedish films. I was unaware of the mini series, but the films probably had a better budget, so I'd go with them.|||Please do not take the other two answers as advice. They are obviously die hard fans of the original trilogy, close minded, and are opposed to compromise or change. I've read the book, seen the trilogy, and the new film. The new one is better. It is way closer to the book and the character of Lisbeth is much more intriguing. The Swedish film is good too, but the new one is simply better. Watch both.|||Watch the trilogy. I'm turning 14 this year and I'm on about page 70, and I still am going to continue to read it no matter what the age should be, I already know it's sexual and violent in some parts. I found the films more distressing.|||Don't hold your breath, I got to page 240 and gave up, in fact if you skip all the bit inbetween you won't miss anything, he is still in the Village writing the biography and nothing has happened of note.

Has anybody read "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" by the late Stieg Larsson?
I asked because this book has been met with great acclaim and I was wondering if it's really as good as the media, bookstores and online ads make it seem? I've also read some reviews on Amazon saying that the book is overrated. What's your opinion on it?
Oh, and I've also read about the graphic sex (or rape?) scene. Many have called it disturbing. I'm thinking of "Best Answer" to whoever can type it down word-for-word. Actually, I've read all three of his Millenium Trilogy. I loved them all. I loved the depth and reality of the characters. I loved the themes of righting social injustices by those in authority, of working outside the lines. Technology, hacking, journalism, intrigue, a dash of romance, and a thoroughly 21st century outlook on life and relationships, etc. Loved it.
I don't usually like crime novels, and I rarely enjoy detective stories, so I'm not looking for recommendations along those lines.
But I don't know what to read next. Help!
Also: somebody recommended the Aud Torvingen books, by Nicola Griffith. I read the first one. They were ok, but I wasn't that impressed.|||You might want to move into science fiction, maybe William Gibson? Mona Lisa Overdrive was interesting.

I was just wondering because everyone is telling me that the Millennium Trilogy is so amazing and I read that the author died before finishing the forth book and he originally planned to write ten books. Is every book about different stuff or does the story just stop after the first three and we never get to read the end?
I am planning to read the Millennium Trilogy but it's a bit like reading a half of the book and then just stopping without knowing what happened next.

I've just read the 2nd book in the Milennium trilogy 'The girl who played with fire' 600 pages that I just could not put down. Its more than just a crime thriller as there are a lot of social undertones - and a certain amount of sex; The first book, The girl with the Dragon Tattoo was just as good.
I just love the level of detail and the complex plot but it has to be written in a way that gets my juices going. Unfortunately Stieg dies after the 3rd book (not yet translated) so I need more authors of a similar type.
I tend to like books where the hero is a very smart/ logical thinker and you hear him thinking out loud. My favourite authors are Dick Francis (crime thrillers), James Clavell (shogun, king rat etc), Frank Herbert (dune trilogy etc).....

I've heard about this book in internet and I want to read it... I know it is a saga of 3 books and the first one The girl with the dragon tatttoo doesn't seem as good. Most assume that Mikael is based on Stieg, but from what Ive read Lisbeth sounds much more like Stieg. Have you read the Stieg Larsson's trilogy books?
I must be honest that I don't usually like reading most best sellers because they don't seem to capture my interest especially crime thrillers.
However, I went to my local opp shop and bought the second book for one dollar of The Girl Who Played with Fire by the late Stieg Larsson and read it in a whole month. Great ripping yarn although I didn't like the main character. Eventually, I did come to love her as a human being who was abused by someone she knew as a child.
Then I went to Kmart and bought a copy of the first book and started to read it with great interest.
Just want to know if anyone has read these books and what are your opinions about the books.

I just finish the Stieg Larsson books (The girl with the dragon tattoo...etc.) and i was looking for books maybe not exactly similar but something just as dark. I have heard of henning mankell and other swedish artist, which didn't really get me hooked. Stieg Larsson Novels?
Why did the novels of Stieg Larsson become so popular earlier this year? They're good books, but weren't they published a few years back? Why did the just now get so huge?|||Probably because of the movies. The movie version by the Swedes came out in 2009 to healthy reception, so that may have generated buzz for it. Also talk of the English language version in the works could be a(nother) reason.|||Ummm, not sure as to why exactly, I've checked in the books and Steig Larsson died in 2004 and his first book wasn't released until 2008.
I don't know, maybe just word of mouth, because he was an unknown author at the time it took a while to get on the best sellers lists and for people to begin recommending them.

It won't be a completed, polished first half of a story, it'll be a jumble of notes, polished passages, missing bits with "such and such will go in here", plot elements which contradict one another...|||It would not really respect him, if we just go and publish his half-finished book finished permission. I like those books too, but hey, there's not much you can do if it is only half-finished.|||Perhaps his estate will hire a ghostwriter at some point in the future to finish the manuscript. Or, maybe not.

I'm reading that right now, I like it so far! Definitely worth the read, there are also 2 other books after it. "The Girl Who Knocked the Hornets Nest" and "The Girl Who Played with Fire". I am not sure if they are series per say but if you end up liking Larsson's work then go for it :D|||I've heard a lot about it, and I heard it's great. I'm reading the second book in the trilogy now (haven't read the other two), The Girl Who Played with Fire, and I love it. Though I heard the second one is better, I'm sure The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo should measure up.

Do people in Scandinavia often work and do things very late at night (I've been reading Stieg Larsson novels)?

It is, therefore, not unusual to see people out painting their houses at 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning, because it's still light out at that hour. Even at midnight you will see people walking around town and socializing/chatting in the parks. Yet the summer season is short in Sweden. This "making hay while the sun shines" is an integral part of Swedish culture.

I'm reading "the girl with the dragon tattoo" and I've noticed at least four times he's made references to the apple iBook and described it as though he were trying to sell it in an advertisement. What was the answer to Fermat's Last Theorem from the book The Girl who Played with Fire By Stieg Larsson?
in this there's a person who name is salander and i don't know if she solved the mathematics question or not so i'm confused.|||Salander does figure out the solution, however, Stieg Larsson never tells us what she figured it out to be before she herself forgets what the solution was, due to her brain injury. So, yeah, she figured it out but the reader doesn't know what it is.

I wanted to know if this would be something that I should read. I'm sixteen years old, and I've heard that it's not necessarily an appropriate book for a teenager to read, but I'm really curious. I only have a slight clue of what it's about, and I don't want spoilers. I just want someone to tell me what exactly I should expect or if I should even read it at all.|||At 16 years old, I feel sure that you can handle it.
Why not appropriate? An intelligent, gifted, young woman, with no protection under Swedish law, is raped in the most atrocious manner possible by a man who was appointed her guardian under Swedish law.

Mikael is helped by a socially-awkward, somewhat disturbed but extremely clever woman, Lisbeth Salander, who has a few secrets of her own too.|||Oh, yes. It's brilliant.

You're 13, not seven. Since you are old enough to distinguish fiction from reality, you shouldn't be scared to read something with 'inappropriate' content. It's not going to leap off the page and drag you down to Hell. I had certainly read books with that kind of content by the time I was your age and I still seem to be a normal functioning human being 20 years later. If you restrict your reading to that extent, and worry about what is 'age-appropriate' you will end up hampering your intellectual development, to be honest, as you'll be preventing yourself from reading a great deal of classic literature and you'll end up with a very narrow range of reading material.|||I'm going to be completly honest with you. The book has some sexual content and heavy use of langauge. It really depends on if your mature enough. I'm sixteen and I read the first two books and loved them. They were a little hard to get into at first but it's so extreme that it's hard to put down.
