Is it haram to watch T.V or play video games during Ramadan?

I pray five times, read Quran, and read about Islam, but it still doesnt kill time! I wanted to know if I could watch stuff like Spongebob or iCarly. Not stuff with blood or cursing. Also, my brother is a huge video game fan and I'm trying to slow down his video game addiction. He likes play Call of Duty and I know by heart it has blood and killing Muslims so thats haram. Can he play stuff like mario? So can I watch T.V and play video games during Ramadan?|||If it is not haram outside of Ramadan then its not Haram during Ramadan. If it is haram outside of Ramadan then it is haram during Ramadan.

During Ramadan we get more reward for our good deeds. It's a time for more Ibadah and abstaining from sins. Alot of people would say that playing video games is a waste of time.|||let me correct you on call of duty, its not killing muslims, its killing terrorist. what kind of muslim would hold a gun and kill people. and i think you can watch tv, play video games as long as you have time for allah and it is not offensives to islam (bad scenes, making fun of islam etc)|||you can play games and watch tv as long as no cursing drinking or anything like that.

and you can play games or watch tv that is bloody or nasty or anything like that

thanks:)|||I haven't read the book, but basic suggestions would be character names, important locations (like the city/state/country everything happens in), and important objects (I'm sure "dragon" and "tattoo" would be good choices). Also, if any character says a word of short phrase a lot, like a catchphrase, you could use that.|||Choose 25 words from the book - and don't forget you can use common words, the little connector words, and other simple words.

Crosswords are actually quite fun to do. Pick one word that will be the theme for your puzzle, put it in the middle of the puzzle, and then work out from there.

The girl with the dragon tattoo?

Have you read the book The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson? and if so, how did you like it? would you recommend it?|||I downloaded it as an audio book from Audible.com and listened to it on my iPod. It was well-written. The lead female character is very strong and the plot moves at a good pace. It won't be the best book you've ever read, but it is solidly entertaining.

What TV programmes would I like?

Don't know why, but I have gotten into subtitled detective dramas of late: Wallander, The Killing, Spiral, and the three Stieg Larsson films. Nothing seems to be good on the telly, so I am considering getting a DVD or something. Any ideas? I also like Dexter, CSI, and all ITV's Poirot adaptations. Did you enjoy Girl with Dragon Tattoo?

by Swedish author Stieg Larsson and did you like the main characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist? Do you think they were believable and sympathetic? I thoroughly enjoyed it and have bought the 2nd in the trilogy Girl who played with Fire, to start [and probably finish] this weekend. I've read many varying reviews from aweful to wonderful, wondered what you all thought of it?|||Well, I like Swedish crime novels. They are refreshingly different from the British and American ones.

(Henning Mankell, Sjowal and Wahloo).

I read all three parts of the Millenium trilogy, and whilst it is not high-brow literature, it is a great representation of Swedish society, of the culture etc.

In addition, it is a hard to put down suspense thriller.

Only one caveat.

As you might know the books got published after the authors untimely death and the second book has a lot of repetitions in it, that an editor in cooperation with the author might have reduced. I am a fast reader, therefore it did not bother me too much but that is the only criticism I have.

The third book does not have this problem and it gives you a great resolutions to all the various story-lines.

ENJOY

Can anyone recommend a book?

I just got done reading the Stieg Larsson series (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire) and the Tana French books (The Likeness and In the Woods). I like the crime and mystery factor as well as the foreign setting but am afraid of most crime/mystery books because I don't want it to be cheesy. Any recommendations?

How do you delete samples from Nook e-reader?

My Barnes %26amp; Noble Nook e-reader came with two samples: "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" by Stieg Larsson and "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan.

I don't ever plan to read those two books and I want to remove them, but there is no Delete option. The instructions that came with the Barnes %26amp; Noble Nook says to Archive books rather than Delete them, but I don't see any Archive option either for the samples either.

How can I get rid of them?|||Their is no delete option unless you connect to the computer. I'm not sure if you are able to archive the built in work(s). Go to your Library, from what I read, hover over the book in the library, (on the scroll screen), and click "View Item Details %26amp; Options." At the bottom of that screen should be the Archive option. Hit that and when it goes back to the first screen hit "Hide Archived Items".

I'm not sure if the samples can be deleted though, if not then the only other way would be connecting it up to your computer, then deleting. To do this, connect to the computer and click on "My ebooks Library", you should get a list of all your books, then go to the one you want and click either "Delete" and it should give you another delete option or the option to archive.

Or logging into your Barnes %26amp; Nobles account online, going to your Library online and deleting from their.

What is the best version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo films?

I want to watch Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy but I'm not sure whether I should get the regular films or the extended TV mini series version, anyone know which is better?|||I really enjoyed the Swedish films. I was unaware of the mini series, but the films probably had a better budget, so I'd go with them.|||Please do not take the other two answers as advice. They are obviously die hard fans of the original trilogy, close minded, and are opposed to compromise or change. I've read the book, seen the trilogy, and the new film. The new one is better. It is way closer to the book and the character of Lisbeth is much more intriguing. The Swedish film is good too, but the new one is simply better. Watch both.|||Watch the trilogy. I will not even see this remake crap that just came out. Those 3 films were some of the best I have ever seen. If you don't like them, I will give you your money back. That is how good they are.

Does anyone know when The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest will be released in the USA?

I've read both of the books in this trilogy by Stieg Larsson and I want to know when the last one will be released in the USA? It's been released in Sweden, I think, and the UK but not here! Does anybody know?? Thanks!|||May 2010

What is the age rating for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

What is the age rating for the book, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson? If it has one that is, but I think most books have an age rating like 12+, 18+, etc.

So I was wondering, if the book has one, what is it? I'm turning 14 this year and I'm on about page 70, and I still am going to continue to read it no matter what the age should be, I already know it's sexual and violent in some parts. But I was just wondering what the reccommended age is|||I was 14 when I read this and I didn't find it that disturbing. I found the films more distressing.|||Don't hold your breath, I got to page 240 and gave up, in fact if you skip all the bit inbetween you won't miss anything, he is still in the Village writing the biography and nothing has happened of note.

Boring, when I was young I read Lady Chatterley's lover because I heard there was sex in it. I would have spent my time better watching paint dry, I suspect tattoo has become famous because the author pegged it, no other reason?

Try Jackie Collins.|||Its target audience is adults. Books don't have age ratings.

I'm not aware of any mainstream books that I'd be concerned about a 14 year old reading.

If you're going to read it anyway, why do you care? So you can brag about it? Meh.|||It doesn't have a rating on the cover, but in my opinion the content is definitely an R rating as a movie and book, so 17+ should be able to handle all the subject matter.|||It is aimed at adults.

Has anybody read "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" by the late Stieg Larsson?

I asked because this book has been met with great acclaim and I was wondering if it's really as good as the media, bookstores and online ads make it seem? I've also read some reviews on Amazon saying that the book is overrated. What's your opinion on it?

Oh, and I've also read about the graphic sex (or rape?) scene. Many have called it disturbing. I'm thinking of "Best Answer" to whoever can type it down word-for-word. I'm curious to see how it was written...|||I know one woman who read it in two weeks. She said she "just could NOT put it down". I also know a man (co-worker) who tried reading it and couldn't get past the first 1/3 of the book. It was too limpid and weird for his tastes...."overrated".|||Dude, just watch the movie if you're to lazy to read to book.

What to read after The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson?

Actually, I've read all three of his Millenium Trilogy. I loved them all. I loved the depth and reality of the characters. I loved the themes of righting social injustices by those in authority, of working outside the lines. Technology, hacking, journalism, intrigue, a dash of romance, and a thoroughly 21st century outlook on life and relationships, etc. Loved it.

I don't usually like crime novels, and I rarely enjoy detective stories, so I'm not looking for recommendations along those lines.

The girl with a dragon tattoo - Stieg Larsson?

I was just wondering because everyone is telling me that the Millennium Trilogy is so amazing and I read that the author died before finishing the forth book and he originally planned to write ten books. Is every book about different stuff or does the story just stop after the first three and we never get to read the end?

I am planning to read the Millennium Trilogy but it's a bit like reading a half of the book and then just stopping without knowing what happened next.

Thanks :-)|||http://www.amazon.com

To answer your question, I looked on Amazon (often do for research purposes) and see Larsson completed three books before his death to make a trilogy... he started a fourth, but it's too incomplete and family decided against anyone else finishing it...

I didn't see anywhere that he planned ten books... hmm...anyway...

I saw see these are/will be available as well...

"The Girl Who Played with Fire" (July, '09)

and

"The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" (May, 2010)

For me, a trilogy will suffice.

Like I wrote above, the right amount of "You HAVE to read this!"(-s) from friends convinced me...

PS. Yes, the books are about the same girl, etc.

What should I read after Stieg Larsson's trilogy? (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo)?

I loved all three books. I loved the depth and reality of the characters. I loved the themes of righting social injustices by those in authority, of working outside the lines. Technology, hacking, journalism, intrigue, a dash of romance, and a thoroughly 21st century outlook on life and relationships, etc. Loved it.

But I don't know what to read next. Help!|||here are some page-turners by Huston and Connelly

The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death: A Novel by Charlie Huston

My Dead Body: A Novel by Charlie Huston

Nine Dragons by Michael Connelly

The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly

Do you think that Stieg Larsson's character Lisbeth Salander gives Asperger's Syndrome a black eye?

I am speaking of the character's amorality and lesser than normal sense of respect for human life. She is basically written out as a sociopath with many positive and benevolent exploits under her belt who additionally has a high IQ. He incidentally then slips in the strong implications that she has Asperger's Syndrome and then writes in many distinguishing attributes of Asperger's Syndrome as details of her personality.

Do you think this encourages people with this syndrome to be seen as people who lack morality or moral compass, or at the least are incredibly self-centred? Or is this just an innocuous detail of fictional character's personality that bears no light on the real people with this syndrome?|||I don't think you should read too much into it.

This character has also been abused in many ways..that may have contributed to her behavior as well.

the girl who the kicked the hornet's nest

thank you|||the order you have them listed right there!

Name me another author like Stieg Larsson?

I get bored very quickly and find there are a lot of books I just can't get into.

I've just read the 2nd book in the Milennium trilogy 'The girl who played with fire' 600 pages that I just could not put down. Its more than just a crime thriller as there are a lot of social undertones - and a certain amount of sex; The first book, The girl with the Dragon Tattoo was just as good.

I just love the level of detail and the complex plot but it has to be written in a way that gets my juices going. Unfortunately Stieg dies after the 3rd book (not yet translated) so I need more authors of a similar type.

I tend to like books where the hero is a very smart/ logical thinker and you hear him thinking out loud. My favourite authors are Dick Francis (crime thrillers), James Clavell (shogun, king rat etc), Frank Herbert (dune trilogy etc).....

Any ideas as to which author, I should read next?|||The Book Seer website lets you enter details of books that you enjoyed and recommends others to try. It suggests quite a few including:

Just finished Stieg Larsson's Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest from the Millenium series...?

NOW WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??? I heard there's a fourth book on the laptop that his sig other has...any news about that? Quite possible a fourth, fifth and sixth book?

DOES ANYONE KNOW?|||Jump on next book bandwagon, I guess.

But seriously, I have heard there is a rough unfinished draft of another book, but I am very skeptical of such reports. I think certain parties just do not want the cash cow to dry up.|||i think it's only a trilogy, since the author died of a heart attack years before

ive got about 200 more pages left of the girl who played with fire, but i dont want to finish so fast

Stieg Larsson vs Dan Brown - who is better?

I'm Swedish but I have to go with Brown, I think Stieg Larssons books are boring

Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy - any good?

I read the first and really enjoyed it, but i heard the second and third arent as good. Can anyone who has read all three tell me if the first is really the best of the bunch?

thanks :)|||If you enjoyed the first one, you should definitely read the second two, as they are nearly as good. Of course, the first is so awesome it can't be beaten, but the two come pretty close.

You'll enjoy them, trust.

Did Stieg Larsson ever describe what Lisbeth Salander's dragon tattoo looks like? ?

I've read all three books, and all I remember him saying about it was" it was very beautiful."

I suppose he wanted to leave it up to the reader's imagination.

The girl who played with fire by Stieg Larsson... Have you read it?

I've heard about this book in internet and I want to read it... I know it is a saga of 3 books and the first one The girl with the dragon tatttoo doesn't seem as good. So do you think I can read the second one with reading the first one? Or it wouldn't make sense? Did you like them?|||You have to read the books in order so, no, don't start with the 2nd one because it won't make sense. The 2nd book is a continuation of the 1st book. The first book is very good but is quite long and it does go on a bit but I'd recommend reading it.|||I saw the movies. They were decent. Different from the usual hollywood stuff..

How did Stieg Larsson snuff it? was his death suspicious?

Heart attack.

How did Stieg Larsson die?

I read that he died of a heart attack. He was fifty years old.

Which is the FIRST of the three books by stieg larsson?

is it "the girl with the dragon tattoo", or "the girl who played with fire"?

Thanks! =)|||The proper order is:

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl Who Played with Fire

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest|||dragon tattoo was the first

Was Lisbeth Salander based on Stieg Larsson himself.?

Most assume that Mikael is based on Stieg, but from what Ive read Lisbeth sounds much more like Stieg. Any thoughts?|||Stieg Larsson was quite open about Mikael being partly based on him, and nothing I've read about him suggests that he has much in common with Lisbeth at all. Lisbeth has a completely different outlook on life and a completely different personality from Larsson, and also, a very different set of skills and talents. Lisbeth, for example, isn't particularly good with words or good at understanding human motivations and emotions, whereas Larsson, as a novelist, obviously had those skills in abundance.|||No, Mikael is based on Stieg Larsson's life, he even said so. Before he died...

Has anyone read Stieg Larsson, My Friend by Kurdo Baksi?

how is the book?|||No, I had never heard of it, but thanks for the heads up.

Have you read the Stieg Larsson's trilogy books?

I must be honest that I don't usually like reading most best sellers because they don't seem to capture my interest especially crime thrillers.

However, I went to my local opp shop and bought the second book for one dollar of The Girl Who Played with Fire by the late Stieg Larsson and read it in a whole month. Great ripping yarn although I didn't like the main character. Eventually, I did come to love her as a human being who was abused by someone she knew as a child.

Then I went to Kmart and bought a copy of the first book and started to read it with great interest.

Just want to know if anyone has read these books and what are your opinions about the books.

My main interest was to read it as a writer myself who is currently writing a book. I needed to see the structure of the novel, its characters, themes and subplots to capture the readers attention and keep turning the page.|||I thought the characters were unique and the plots exciting, if a bit grim. I didn't like the translation though. I didn't like all the non-essential computer lingo was thrown in either, i felt it didn't add anything and just slowed down the story.

Book suggestion? just finished stieg larsson...?

I just finish the Stieg Larsson books (The girl with the dragon tattoo...etc.) and i was looking for books maybe not exactly similar but something just as dark. I have heard of henning mankell and other swedish artist, which didn't really get me hooked. I'm just looking for some more along the lines of horror i guess or more of a grim story rather then just a detective mystery.|||hmmm... I was going to suggest Mankell and Jo Nesbo. Maybe Starvation Lake by Brian Gruley or else his new one, The Hanging Tree. . . maybe Tana French's new one, The Faithless Place or Into the Woods. . . Dennis Lehane's Shutter Island or Mystic River.

|||The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the best, hands down. Better plot, storyline and amazing ending!|||The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was best, because it kept you guessing. The first book in a series is normally the best, because you don't know the characters well enough to predict their actions.|||I enjoyed them all but the first one was probably my favourite.

Does Stieg Larsson's Millenium Trilogy have to be read in order ? ?

I've started with the girl who played with fire accidentaly ! I'm half way through before I realised its the second book .. Idiot right ?

Anyways, do the stories interlink or doesn't it matter what the order is ?

Cheers|||The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest doesn't make sense unless you've read The Girl Who Played With Fire first.

But you can read The Girl Who Played With Fire without reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and still understand the story. There are references back to things that happen in the first book, but they're all explained.

The only thing is that if you now go back and read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, a lot of the suspense in that novel will be lost, because you'll know that certain characters are still alive and so on. But it will still make sense.|||Read it any way you want! As long as you enjoy it!|||they should be read in order

Was Stieg Larsson a racist?

Like the question states, was Stieg Larsson a racist/member of the far rights in Sweden? Someone said he was, but I thought he was anti/AGAINST those groups/organizations?

Could anyone clarify?|||Absolutely not! He was editor-in-chief of Expo, a magazine that exposed racists and right wing extremists. He was known to be fiercly anti-racist. In his youth, he supported a communist party.|||Absolutely not in any way shape or form. He was more of a communist in his early years and trained female guerillas in Eritrea. He hated the right wing and all it stood for.|||No

He spent quite a bit of time gathering and reporting on them, Which they did not like.

Stieg Larsson Novels?

Why did the novels of Stieg Larsson become so popular earlier this year? They're good books, but weren't they published a few years back? Why did the just now get so huge?|||Probably because of the movies. The movie version by the Swedes came out in 2009 to healthy reception, so that may have generated buzz for it. Also talk of the English language version in the works could be a(nother) reason.|||Ummm, not sure as to why exactly, I've checked in the books and Steig Larsson died in 2004 and his first book wasn't released until 2008.

I don't know, maybe just word of mouth, because he was an unknown author at the time it took a while to get on the best sellers lists and for people to begin recommending them.

Now sure, interesting question.

Did Swedish novelist Stieg Larsson finish writing Rory Emerald's biography?

Sadly no, Stieg died before finishing Rory's bio.

What's your favourite work by Stieg Larsson ?

I'm reading The Girl Who Played with Fire at the moment, and so far it's great, maybe even better than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (if that is even possible) but they are both great books, Dragon Tattoo is one of my all time favourites :)|||http://www.bananalady.se/foto/henrik_lar…

Why won't they publish the 4th book by stieg larsson?

I don't care if he's just half way through the book, but why don't they publish it?

I want to read it sooooo bad :) :)|||Because it's impossible to publish something which doesn't actually exist. It won't be a completed, polished first half of a story, it'll be a jumble of notes, polished passages, missing bits with "such and such will go in here", plot elements which contradict one another...|||It would not really respect him, if we just go and publish his half-finished book finished permission. I like those books too, but hey, there's not much you can do if it is only half-finished.|||Perhaps his estate will hire a ghostwriter at some point in the future to finish the manuscript. Or, maybe not.

Who knows.

Such is life.|||Because he's half way through the book.|||For exactly the reasons that Cathrl69 stated. Now expand your world and read something else.

Is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson a good book?

I'm reading that right now, I like it so far! Definitely worth the read, there are also 2 other books after it. "The Girl Who Knocked the Hornets Nest" and "The Girl Who Played with Fire". I am not sure if they are series per say but if you end up liking Larsson's work then go for it :D|||I've heard a lot about it, and I heard it's great. I'm reading the second book in the trilogy now (haven't read the other two), The Girl Who Played with Fire, and I love it. Though I heard the second one is better, I'm sure The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo should measure up.

Edit: Yeah, I don't think it's actually a series :)|||It's alright. It took me awhile to get into it though, a bit of a slow start, but it gets pretty good after that. It's on the best seller list, so you should definately give it a go. It just wasn't really my cup of tea - which is weird, since I usually enjoy mysteries.|||I personally have not read this book, but my younger sister did and said it wasn't a very good book, took her some time to get through it. Hope I have helped you.|||Yes. It's very good. The beginning is a little slow, but you hit a certain point of it and it becomes like crack. I couldn't put it down.|||This is always a matter of personal taste. But for me, definitely YES.

Why is Stieg Larsson's Salander & Blomkvist series called "The Millenium Trilogy"?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest are collectively called the Millenium Trilogy. Why "Millenium"? I've read all three (and heartily recommend them), and have found nothing to suggest why they would be called that.|||Blomkvist is a journalist. Along with Erika Berger he started Millenium magazine. The magazine prides itself on highest quality journalism, outing injustices and wrong doing (can't say too much here or might give away some of the story!).

To cut a long story short, the magazine is critical to the plot; it is the reason why Blomkvist takes on certain jobs; its staff are important to the investigation; it is how certain 'wrongs' are 'righted'. Hence series of books is referred to as the Millenium Trilogy, after the name of the magazine.|||not sure, but could you please answer my question about the series!!

When will "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" by Stieg Larsson come out in paperback?

I'm dying to read it, but I'm not willing to pay the money for the hardcover :P|||It's been out here in the UK in paperback for ages. If you're in America, you could order the paperback from Amazon's UK site (amazon.co.uk) and have it shipped to you, but it's possible the shipping cost and exchange rate would outweigh the money you'd save.

Typically, books come out in paperback about a year after the hardback. According to Amazon, it was published in hardback in the US in May this year, so the paperback will probably come out next spring sometime.

Can you help me about Stieg Larsson ?

I have just read the millenium triology , but I know that there is also a fourth book of millenium ........do you know something ?|||I haven't heard anything about a fourth book. There might have been rough drafts or plans to continue the triology, but unfortunately the author died a few years ago

What are the other books in the trilogy of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson?

Help, please! Thank you (:|||One of my faviorte series.

-The girl who played with fire

-The girl who kicked the hornet nest

In chronological order:

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl Who Played With Fire

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest

Do people in Scandinavia often work and do things very late at night (I've been reading Stieg Larsson novels)?

In "The girl with the dragon tattoo" by Stieg Larsson, the Mikael Blomqwist character often is up and active, doing things at 2am or 3am in the morning. Do people in Sweden and Scandinavia often do this (could be to do with the latitude or cold nights??)|||Because of its global latitude, the sun never quite "sets" in northern Sweden in the summer. In the rest of Sweden, at least *darkness* never falls. It is, therefore, not unusual to see people out painting their houses at 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning, because it's still light out at that hour. Even at midnight you will see people walking around town and socializing/chatting in the parks. Yet the summer season is short in Sweden. This "making hay while the sun shines" is an integral part of Swedish culture.

In the winter, however, there are months of darkness in northern Sweden, when the opposite phenomenon occurs: the sun never quite rises. Even in the southern part of the country, there are only a few hours of daylight during the winter.

For more information, see:

http://www.sweden.se/eng/Home/Work/Life_鈥?/a>

http://www.sweden.se/eng/Home/Lifestyle/鈥?/a>|||In college, we shared an apartment with a Scandinavian guy, and yes he was up really late all the time.

(He worked part time as a computer programmer, so we'd hear the little clacking of the keyboard until the wee hours)

But he only slept like 4-5 hours a night. It was amazing. Must be all that hardy Viking blood.

Did stieg larsson have some kind of deal with Apple in his novel "The girl with the dragon tattoo"?

I'm reading "the girl with the dragon tattoo" and I've noticed at least four times he's made references to the apple iBook and described it as though he were trying to sell it in an advertisement. Was there some connection between him and Apple? Like maybe they paid him to write a couple blurbs about the iBook in his novel? Anybody else notice this??|||It's probably just that those products are very popular in Sweden, or especially popular among the sort of people Larsson wrote about.

Remember, the novel was written by an unknown writer, and neither he nor anybody else expected them to become huge sellers. Product placements in novels are extremely rare, paid placements in novels by unpublished writers are unheard of.

But don't be surprised to see a lot of paid placements in the upcoming movie.|||It's very doubtful.

Often authors use specifics in their books to make it connect to their audience more. Larsson might have felt like the iBook would bring the story alive in a better way than if he'd just said "computer" or "laptop."

Or maybe he thought that owning an Apple says something about the characters in the book, and that's why he chose it.

But no, product placement is extremely rare in books. Authors simply give characters 'real' traits, and sometimes real people are brand advocates, like that friend you have who will only drink Diet Coke and never Diet Pepsi.

How would Sigmund Freud describe Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander Personality?

Repressed sexuality. Identity suppression. Female hysteria. And any other multi syllabic and flawed terminology representative of the times in which he wrote his premises and accounts of patients.

Is it worth reading 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' by Stieg Larsson?

I've read the first chapter and I don't really find it captivating. Has anyone read it? Is it worth it to continue?

Please don't spoil the story for me incase I do wanna finish it lol, thanks.|||The butler did it.

Now you can read something else.|||I have to say that I love these books, but the two last ones are better than the first.

ps. the butler didn't do it.

What was the answer to Fermat's Last Theorem from the book The Girl who Played with Fire By Stieg Larsson?

in this there's a person who name is salander and i don't know if she solved the mathematics question or not so i'm confused.|||Salander does figure out the solution, however, Stieg Larsson never tells us what she figured it out to be before she herself forgets what the solution was, due to her brain injury. So, yeah, she figured it out but the reader doesn't know what it is.

Which is your fave Stieg Larsson book and why (no spoilers, please)?

I've read the first book only. Don't give away the ending of the second or third book. Which is your fave book of his and why, without giving away anything? Thanks!!!|||I liked The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson?

I wanted to know if this would be something that I should read. I'm sixteen years old, and I've heard that it's not necessarily an appropriate book for a teenager to read, but I'm really curious. I only have a slight clue of what it's about, and I don't want spoilers. I just want someone to tell me what exactly I should expect or if I should even read it at all.|||At 16 years old, I feel sure that you can handle it.

Why not appropriate? An intelligent, gifted, young woman, with no protection under Swedish law, is raped in the most atrocious manner possible by a man who was appointed her guardian under Swedish law.

Why appropriate? The story is told by an author who so loves and respects women that his rage at their abuse fairly jumps off the page at you. If her mistreatment moves you, then you will enjoy the fiendish revenge that she takes on her tormentor.

Why appropriate (Part II)? Lisbeth Salander will lead you on a step-by-step explanation about how she, with her computer expertise, gets inside every one's computer, takes them over as if they were her own, and uses them to orchestrate a vast scheme to destroy every one who has ever harmed her or her friends.

Why appropriate (Part III)? It would interest every one in Yahoo Answers if you were to read the book and give your opinion as to whether what Lisbeth Salander does with computers and banking accounts is possible.

I think you should read the book.|||Well from what I've heard, it is a very good book, and I would love to read it. All I can tell you is that I found it really hard to get in to. I think I gave up about halfway through the first chapter.

If you're used to reading long/difficult books, it might be worth a shot.

Is the book 'girl with the dragon tattoo' by stieg Larsson any good?

I keeping seeing it an hearing for there people that its good. Is it worth reading? Also what is it really about?|||I thought it was good. It started a bit slowly, but once I got past the first 60 or 70 pages, I couldn't put it down.

It's about an investigative journalist, Mikael Blomqvist, who is paid by a wealthy businessman to look into the disappearance of his niece, that took place about 30 years previously. Mikael is helped by a socially-awkward, somewhat disturbed but extremely clever woman, Lisbeth Salander, who has a few secrets of her own too.|||Oh, yes. It's brilliant.

Like the previous answerer mentioned, you might have to push yourself few the first few chapters, but it's worth it. I recommed reading it's sequels too - I finished the Girl who Played with Fire today and loved it.

Is the book The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson appropriate for my age?

I am 13 years old, and in 8th grade. I've seen many people on the train, bus, etc. read the book, and when I went on Amazon to check the reviews, I saw that it was a good book. But is the book actually appropriate for my age and grade?

Thanks|||It's aimed at adults. It has adult characters who do things that adults do.

You're 13, not seven. Since you are old enough to distinguish fiction from reality, you shouldn't be scared to read something with 'inappropriate' content. It's not going to leap off the page and drag you down to Hell. I had certainly read books with that kind of content by the time I was your age and I still seem to be a normal functioning human being 20 years later. If you restrict your reading to that extent, and worry about what is 'age-appropriate' you will end up hampering your intellectual development, to be honest, as you'll be preventing yourself from reading a great deal of classic literature and you'll end up with a very narrow range of reading material.|||I'm going to be completly honest with you. The book has some sexual content and heavy use of langauge. It really depends on if your mature enough. I'm sixteen and I read the first two books and loved them. They were a little hard to get into at first but it's so extreme that it's hard to put down. But then again I think you should ask your parents to see if they would let you.|||I've only seen the movie, and based on some of the things I saw I'd have to caution you. I think you may need to wait a few more years.|||If your more mature for age than most 13 years old, then I say read it. Its a good book but there is a lot of sex and language.|||If you're thirteen, the whole of human literature is appropriate.|||No. It's very adult - graphic violence against women, sex, etc.

Who has read the Millenium trilogy by Stieg Larsson?

I found the books quite interesting! How did you feel about them?|||I thought the books were okay, nothing extraordinary, but quite good. I'd read so many reviews before I read the first book, some good, but quite a few bad, so I suppose I didn't have very high expectations, but I did think it was quite interesting at times.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is definitely the best book from the trilogy.|||Its one of the best mystery /thrillers I've read from the last decade. In fact comparing it to the Da Vinci Code, the characters are not simplistic one dimensional cut outs at all. The rich characterizations and explorations of dark behaviour remind me of Elizabeth George.

It is so sad that the author has passed away and we won't be meeting the characters for more than just 3 books.

Is the book "The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson a good book?

I just checked it out today, and the beginning is a little boring and confusing. Will it get better?|||Stieg Larsson is a very long-winded author.

There are definitely some exciting aspects to the book and although I liked it overall, I don't ever recommend it to anyone because so much of it was a waste of my time.

The story isn't so good that it's worth the time.|||The beginning is really slow. After you get through the first hundred pages or so you wont want to put it down, and before you know it you'll be checking out "The Girl Who Played with Fire".|||Once you get about 150 pages in, you won't want to put it down. I thought it was boring in the beginning too, but it gets VERY good and unpredictable.|||Stick with it, once you get a bit further in it becomes engrossing|||Haven't read it but I heard it was good.|||NO! It is one of the only books I never finished.

How many pages are in the girl with the dragon tattoo by stieg larsson?

There are 463 pages in the hardcover book, and 841 pages in the paperback one.|||There are 463 pages total.

When does Stieg Larsson's "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest" come out in the US in paperback?

I have the first two novels in paperback, but can't find the third one in anything but hardback. I really don't want to buy the hardback edition because I can't carry it around with me as easily and it costs a lot more. So does anyone know when it will be sold in paperback form in the US?|||I think it's already out in paperback:

http://www.amazon.com/Girl-Kicked-Hornet鈥?/a>|||i have no clue when its sold in paperback but you could order it online... you could also buy a kindle which you could carry thousands of books on.

I loved Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, is there any book almost similar to it?

I found it interesting and well written, despite it bored me a little sometimes. I'd like to read something similar, not the same but you know!|||the books of Henning Mankell have similar atmosphere and style - I m sure you will enjoy it.

I read Faceless Killers, and The Dogs of Riga, just great.|||Try any of Jo Nesbo's books - The Redbreast is particularly good.

Can anyone explain the first chapter in "The girl with the dragon tattoo". By Stieg Larsson?

I am really confused and I don't really know what's going on. So if anyone can give some insight as to what is going on it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1 day ago - 3 days left to answer.|||You actually don't need to understand all the details to get into the rest of the book, but the situation is that Blomqvist is fed some information about an ongoing fraud racket at a major company, which he publishes as an article in his magazine, Millennium, making a number of accusations about the company's CEO. However, it appears that he has been set up, because the information is proved in court to be untrue and Blomqvist is therefore sentenced to a short stay in prison (although he doesn't have to serve his sentence immediately, as is sometimes the case with Swedish prison sentences for certain types of offence) and his magazine fined a huge amount of money, affecting its reputation. Honestly, the exact details of the fraud etc don't really matter.

Once you've met Lisbeth and Mikael is employed by Henrik Vanger, everything gets soooo much better, I promise.

Is the Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson worth reading?

The books have become incredibly popular recently and I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about. While the majority of reviews I've heard/read have been positive, it has gotten slightly mixed reviews. The thing is that I don't get much time to read and the trilogy looks like a pretty big investment of my time so I'm wondering if it's worth it? I know we all have different tastes but if anyone has read the books please let me know your thoughts! Thanks.|||I found the stories to be interesting but I thought that the writing tended to drag a little bit and the writing itself amazing. If you're a fan of Robin Cook or Michael Crichton then you'll probably like these. They're thrillers, where the fun is in unraveling the mystery, not in sinking into the prose. I found it quite easy to blow through fifty pages or more in a sitting.

Also, I know this sounds like literary blasphemy, but you might want to rent the first movie and see if you like it. Having read the book and seen the movie, I can say that it is a pretty faithful, pared down adaptation of the book.

Also also, I feel like you could walk away from the series after the first book and not feel a terrible loss. You get a conclusion to the big mystery and though he sets us up for a sequel, if you never got terribly invested in Salander's character, then it wouldn't be heartbreaking to set it down and never find out what her backstory is.

So yeah, I'd say they'd be worth picking up a paperback of.

Are the books by Stieg Larsson all about the same original plot?

Are they all about finding the murderer of the old man's niece? Or, does each book have a different mystery to solve? Also, do you need to read part one in order to understand the second and third books? Thanks!|||Absolutely not. Only the first book is about the case of Harriet Vanger, niece of Henrik Vanger. The next two books though, are rather interrelated to each other. From the second book, the focus shifts more prominently to Lisbeth Salander, the Girl; while the third book devotes it utmost focus on her.

You can skip the first book and still follow the next two books with equal understanding. But it does help you in getting into the skin of the characters better and also showcases Lisbeth's talents to a greater extent.

But anyway, there isn't any reason why anybody should give the first book a miss. It's brilliant. You'd absolutely adore it.|||No, there's a different mystery in each one. Blomkvist, Salander and a couple of other people appear in all three stories, but each one has a different plot.

I haven't read the last one yet, but I've read the first one and I'm half way through the second one. You don't *have* to have read the first one to understand the second one, because Larsson recaps how Blomkvist and Salander met and reiterates anything you need to know, but you'll get much more out of them if you read them in the right order. You'll know the characters better and you'll appreciate them more.|||No the old man's niece situation is resolved by the end of book one.

Books two and three are more closely related to each other, though. You could start with 2 if you want (I thought it was the best), but I wouldn't start with 3.

Are the Stieg Larsson books a trilogy to be read in a certain order?

The girl with the dragon tattoo

The girl who kicked the hornet's nest

The girl who played with fire

What is the correct order?|||Yes, it's a series.

1) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

2) The Girl Who Played with Fire

3) The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest|||Yes, but it ain't really that big of a deal if you read them out of order....they all good....

Will the books of stieg larsson trilogy continue?

Now that the author has died will the books continue? I know that his wife has drafts for 3 or 4 more books, and I was wondering if they will come out any time soon.I know for a fact that the books are administered now by his father and brother, since the author didn't left a will. 10 points to best answer!|||Right now, anyway, this is unlikely. Supposedly there is a draft for a fourth novel, about 3/4 finished, in the possession of his longtime girlfriend (Larsson did not have a wife), but the legal rights to any further publications belong to his father and brother, and apparently the relationship between these people is not warm and fuzzy. Supposedly synopses for other books in this series exist as well. Again, it is not likely they will see the light of day soon.

How do you pronounce the first name of Stieg Larsson?

How do you pronounce Stieg?

Stieg Larsson Millennium series based on real events?

I know Stieg Larssons main passion was exposing right way extremism and injustices of all kinds. I wondered if the Millennium series was his way of exposing a plot within Swedish society? Something he couldn't come outright and say, so this was the only way he could do it?

Or am I just ranting insanely?|||I don't know about Sweden, but it reminds me of what's going on with Hackgate/Rupert Murdoch right now, with the corruption of police and politicians by his papers and the dead whistleblower.

What's a book or books as good as the three in the Stieg Larsson series?

I want something equally good when I finish the last of Stieg's three excellent books.

Please explain why you like your recommendations.|||Well if you are into Swedish writers - I recommend Let the right one in by John Ajvide Lindqvist this vampire novel enriches the vampire genre in a way that the Twilight series does not. If you want a good detective series check out Wallander by Henning Mankell, this is intelligent and does not have the body count that many American writers tend to favor. If you are going read either you will be wondering how Dan Brown managed to fool people with his novels.|||hey............. read more about him @: http://www.moviescorner.net/

Is there a chance that Stieg Larsson wrote more millenium books but they haven't been found?

I just finished Stieg Larsson's millenium trilogy.. Have you read it? I am dying to know what's next!! What do you think happened with Lisbeth %26amp; Mikael? Why did he have to die? :( :( They're so good!|||In the official website, it's stated that Larsson had a comprehensive plot/structure for a fourth book. He originally had planned to do 10 books in the series. However, there's a huge dispute between Larsson's life partner and his family over inheritance and rights over his state, so it seems quite unlikely, as the person who might have the best idea on how to go about those other books is in war with his family.

I think everyone is crossing their fingers that these people arrive to a resolution, as really, it's for their best interests.
