I'm thinking of books like Little Brother, by Cory Doctorow, or Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson, or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson. They have characters who do some hacking, and hacking/tech might be a theme in the book, but the stories aren't really about hacking.
Not cyberpunk, etc.
Bonus points for strong female characters, a la Lisbeth Salander from Stieg Larsson's books.|||Digital Fortress, I think, would qualify.
